Default Making money...

So I have begun the proces of starting from scratch to get my 15k armor! But boy its rough...

Im not good at farming or anything. I just try to kill all sorts of stuff and try to get a feel for where its good to kill, and what is good to kill.

Currently im salvaging all the items I get... For blue/purle/gold items I always use expert salavage kit, and for grey items I just use a normal. I then sell all the materials I dont need. im wondering if it would make a better profit if I just sold the loot i didnt need to merchants without salaving?

would it be a better deal for me in the long run to just buy materials from other players/npc material trader?

also... how do I know what to salavage and not to? is it really worth checking everything you loot to see if it has runes in it?

last question first: white armor items have no runes. blue have minor runes, purple have major & gold are superior. Don't salvage the runes until you've ID'd them and can check the price at the rune trader. Major runes are not worth salvaging, because the armor they come in virtually always are worth more than what you can get for the rune alone. A few minor runes are worth salvaging, but very few. There are a few more Superior runes worth more salvaged than not, but you should ALWAYS check the rune trader prices before salvaging them.

As for weapons, just ID them first and see what they're worth. (Knowing what the mods sell for should give you an idea whether it's worth trying to Expert salvage the thing. Even IDing white items will increase their value - especially in the higher-end parts of the game.

As for materials, there's always a market for crafting materials. You can always buy materials from players for a lot less than from the merchant. And you can always sell it to other players for more than what the merchant will give you for it.

You should just sell the white-gold items to the merchant if they dont have any good upgrades on them. I personally dont think it's worth salvaging them for materials unless you want to get them to craft more expensive materials (parchment, deldrimore steel, vellum, etc...). Other than that, Kook pretty much covered the rest.

Especially white items. Those things can double in price after identification.

If you happen to be farming trolls, you could save them up and then trade them in to a collector NPC for an item worth 125 gold instead of selling 5 tusks for 40 gold.

Yep, white identification is definately a good way to make money. If you are not sure about this, go to a high level area, such as Droknar's Forge, kill some monsters outside. Return to Droknar's Forge, and open up the merchant window. See what the price is pre-id then identify the whites. You will see a 10-50 gold increase. That's a lot in the long run.

Also, you can check the item price, PC it yourself, whatever it was called, posted on GWGuru. It showed people how to value items for themselves, and showed whether it was worthwhile selling to other people or giving it the merchant.

Can't seem to find it though. Please say where it is because I'm hopeless with gold stuff prices too.

Also, I find that getting my first peice and staring at it in admiration gives me inspiration. It got me through 2 sets of 15k armor, You should try it too.

Well, that's it then I guess, lots of useless crap though.

I've almost completed my 15k kurzick armor! Just need my mask!

Everyone has given lots of advice on different ways to gain the gold.

One farm I do is with vermin! You could just sell on the hides, trade them with trader weapon worth 125g or you could salvage them for scales, although the market for scales seems to be drying up! Probably because vermin farmin is so easy? Plus you get the chance for golds/purples and dyes dropping, the odd key here and there and I have had a few golds from the chests! gold items drop as well but my luck only gets me items that are just below max damage!

Ideally you should be soloing where you can so you get the max drops!

Pick up everything that drops, every 1g adds up!

15k armor is an extravagance and looks cool! It gives you something to work towards in game.

As someone else mentioned a good motivator is to see the armor! I did not buy any until I could afford the body, leggings and gloves. But I printed off the armor set I was after from gwwiki with a list of materials needed etc...

I started my quest for armor with less than 3k in the bank and worked out a plan to earn money. I looked up all the farming locations and then went to try them with my current build, bear in mind I'm running a Sin! I find some that show some promise and tweak my build to suit. Some of the main farm areas are not that good for a Sin to solo and even if you take the healer henchie then they would be targeted quickly and taken out!

I have started a warrior but she is still in the early stages of development and not yet ready to put into a build to go farming! If I had one though then I would take a warrior farming and go for the mass group killing.

Vermins are good if you are in cantha, pretty short runs. There must be better places for a warrior to farm?

I went to earn more money and buy amber than go through AB for the amber! Mainly because you don't get picked that often as a Sin!

I now have only 1 piece left to buy but I'm back down to less than 2k in the bank (damn usless event for gold drops! I got gold items that were of no real use whatsoever! spent a fortune on keys!) any way I now have to build up my gold reserves again!

Rinse and repoeat for my other characters and then think of second sets etc.....

I would echo most of what has previously been said.

First of all make sure your inventory is as empty as possible and pick up absolutely everything.

ID everything and sell almost everything that is not perfect straight to the merchant. Standing around trying to sell imperfect stuff is just wasting time that you could be farming.

Check the item mods threads and try and learn what mods are worth salvaging and what are not. A perfect mod (or in some cases even an almost perfect mod) will almost always be worth more salvaged than on the imperfect weapon you found it on.

Also after you ID items, salvage any that are Highly Salvagable as these can produce large quantities of materials. Save common materials until you have a stack of 250 to sell in bulk.

HUH, id'ing white items makes them worth more at the merchant, sounds odd - need to check that out.

lol but it's not worth wasting your kit on identifying those.

Actually, for most late game places, it is worth it. An ID kit sells for 100g, and gives you 25 uses. That means you only need the sell price of each white item to increase by 4g to break even (100/25=4). Most later game white items (as in, the desert or even the jungle) will increase by more than that, as others have said, the increase on some of them can be quite substantial.

Just got my Kurzick 15K armor for my ranger. I farmed trolls outside of droks with my warrior/monk. I got quite a few golds (only 1 I actually kept) I also got quite a few gold scrolls and got a black die once. I averaged around 1K a run and my best was 9.6 K. (It had the black dye in it.) I sold everything. I salvaged anything that was extra salvageable and hoped for rare materials. Sold all rare material to merchant. Took about 2 weeks of farming about an hour or two a night, and only about 4-5 days maybe a week. I even bought my amber from the merchant. It is expensive, but quicker then faction farming. I averaged 5-10 min a run at 1K and amber is around 850-950 so this seems faster then doing quests. Check prices every now and then and save your money till amber is low in price. When it is low buy buy buy! You need 80 total amber. I only bought when prices where low which are usually on low flow times when not many people are playing like early early Saturday / Sunday morning. (Keep in mind I did look at all items before I sold. If it had a perfect or expensive mod I salvaged and crossed my fingers) Also use only an expert salvage kit otherwise you don’t have a chance on rare materials when you salvage.
